Celebrities share their packing and travel tips

Who doesn't like to travel smart? Wouldn't it be great if we knew exactly what to pack and how to pack it? Or how to feel good while traveling, for instance preventing the harmful effects of jet lag? Luckily there are experienced celebrities, who spend a great deal of their time traveling, who are happy to share their travel tips and hacks with us.

Gwyneth Paltrow

Pack light, pack smart, and don't check luggage. "The trick is to think it through before you go, pack key interchangeable pieces, and to not be afraid to wash clothes at the hotel," the actress said.

Chrissy Teigen

In 2017, Teigen shared a packing hack with her social media followers: a vacation lookbook detailing all of her outfits.

Tracee Ellis Ross

A facial massage, moisturizer, and hydrating the face with water seems to do the trick for the actress whenever she flies. "I'm really big on hydration ... I do [facial massages] whenever I put moisturizer on, period. When I'm flying, you know how dry it is in the airplane ... So I make sure I drink a lot of water and I spritz [my skin] with a water spray bottle as much as possible and I hydrate," she shared in an Instagram video.

Meghan Markle

Meghan Markle helped popularize the use of tea tree oil. "The one thing that I cannot live without when I'm traveling is a small container of tea tree oil. It's not the most glamorous thing, but if you get a cut, a mosquito bite, a small breakout, no matter what it is, it's my little cure-all. It's inexpensive, it's small enough to carry on, and I bring it with me all the time," she said.

Drew Barrymore

The actress struggles with packing a light bag, but she advises us not to follow her example. "I wish I could be a minimalist, but with kids, you always overcompensate and want to bring everything."

"Try not to have the 18 shopping bags and duffel bags and purses and all those things. It's messy," she added.

Ashley Graham

The model is fan of rose water. "I put it in a travel spray. It locks in moisture, it sets your makeup, it's great for an airplane, and it's great before or after a workout. It keeps your skin nice and glowy," she shared.

Kim Kardashian

Kim Kardashian's tip is to separate everything using bags when packing, so things don't get dirty. "Shoes go in shoe bags to protect the rest of my clothes. I also use Ziploc bags for toiletries, so products don’t ruin my clothes if something breaks. I keep all of my makeup in little pouches, too.”

Eva Longoria

Don't forget your comfy socks! "I get so cold on planes, so I bring some comfy, big socks that keep my feet warm and also act as a barrier to all the disgusting things on the floor," said the 'Desperate Housewives' actress.

Khloé Kardashian

Khloé Kardashian's strategy to stay moisturized and hydrated when flying is to drink one liter of water. She also applies cuticle oil and sprays her face with rose water.

Keira Knightley

The actress recommends rosehip oil. “Flights are so hard on your skin and they make it so dry, so I gave this a go and it really worked. Now I always travel with it.”

Jessica Alba

The actress doesn't travel without her compression socks. "I read that pregnant women can get blood clots when they're traveling—when they're in a place for too long—so that opened my mind to circulation socks. I always have them now," she said.

Victoria Beckham

"I always like to travel with a lot of silk crepe shirts—they don't crease at all and you can dress them up with heels, or wear them with flats—a really good tuxedo jacket and a pair of cigarette pants. I always take a pair of trainers too, because I try to work out wherever I go," said the former Spiced Girl.

Of course, packing clothes is not everything. Skincare is equally important while traveling. "I think it's important to keep your skin clean and hydrated and get as much sleep as you can. Use that time to rest, and be kind to yourself," advises Posh Spice.

Christina Applegate

Applegate said she got herself a Fitbit to try and lose a bit of the weight she gained over her pregnancy. She wore one of the Fitbits designed by Tory Burch.

Gigi Hadid

Essential oils and crystals are the two travel essentials for Gigi Hadid. She also avoids checked bags. "I try to only travel with carry-on at all times," Hadid said.

Adriana Lima

The Brazilian supermodel found a way to stay connected and never lose track of her bags: luggage with GPS. "It really makes a difference because I want to connect with my children no matter where I am. And it’s a way to track your kids, even if they’re traveling. It’s awesome,"  she said.

Julia Stiles

The actress suggests bubble-wrapping your toiletries. Stiles is a fan of those "little, square toiletry bags that that have bubble wrap on the outside."

Lily Aldridge

The former Victoria's Secret Angel likes to pack comfortable scarves. "I like to get cozy on the plane since they can get so cold," she explains. Plus, Aldridge likes the fact that she can wear a scarf around the waist, like a sarong.

Margot Robbie

The actress gets immune-booster shots with ginger and turmeric to fight off jet lag. Robbie also swears by Aesop Ginger Flight Therapy: a roll-on with oils of ginger root, lavender, and geranium. She applies it to her wrists.

Gal Gadot

Wonder Woman drinks plenty of water during flight to stay hydrated. But as soon as she lands, Gadot swears by freshly-squeezed orange juice to help prevent traveling fatigue.

Karen Elson

The model and musician chooses to pack travel-sized beauty products. “I’m all about travel-sized everything. Everything. If I can get it in a travel size, I’ll get it in a travel size. Moroccan oil? Travel size. Eve Lom travel cleanser. Give me anything travel-sized, I want it. I have way too many things when I pack my bag. I bring everything but the kitchen sink," she said.

Kate Upton

The model likes to keep her skin flawless and swears by face masks. "Every time I get on a plane I break out, so I try to keep my skin nourished with face masks. I use sleeping ones on long-haul flights and then a quick 10 minute one as soon as I land."

Molly Sims

The model has a strategy to deal with jet lag before she travels. "A couple nights before I fly, I start getting adjusted to the time zone. If I’m flying east, I go to bed early and stay up late when headed west."

Rosie Huntington-Whiteley

The actress and model's tip is to pack clothes that follow one color scheme. Huntington-Whiteley likes to travel with navy-blue, white, gray, and black, because the colors are interchangeable and work well together.

Rebecca Minkoff

The fashion designer has a great tip for packing: "Roll, do not fold, your clothes. Not only does this free up tons of space in your bag, but it minimizes wrinkling."
