Ongoing travel disruptions at Harry Reid International Airport amid shutdown
LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Millions of Americans continue to feel the effects of the government shutdown, including air travel.
According to data from FlightAware, at Harry Reid International Airport, there were 529 delays and 67 cancellations on Monday, compared to Friday, when there were 247 delays and 41 cancellations.
Traveler Omarion Hart told 8 News Now he was stuck at the airport all day Monday. His original flight to Denver was scheduled for 10 a.m., and he arrived at the airport at 5 a.m. 8 News Now spoke to him at 8 p.m., as he camped out while waiting to board his rebooked flight on United for Tuesday at 5 a.m.

“It said your booking was cancelled for some government issue thing,” Hart said. “This is my first time going through something like this.”
Sisters Michelle St. Dennis and Angela Towne made it into Las Vegas from Vancouver with no trouble, for the start of their girls’ trip. However, their cousin, who chose to fly separately on Air Canada, wasn’t as lucky.
“Her flight was canceled from Toronto,” St. Dennis said.
“She was a little bit nervous that she wasn’t going to get on a flight,” Towne explained. “When they originally said they were going to rebook her, they were going to rebook for several days later, but as you know, we don’t come here for long periods of time.”
However, after a brief travel headache, their cousin’s flight was rebooked, and she is set to make the girls’ weekend only a little later than anticipated.
Some travelers, including Christie Tran from Philadelphia, experienced no issues while traveling on Monday.
“Everyone said they’re delayed. Everyone said ‘massive.’ Let me tell you, I fly almost every week, and this is the first time from checking in, went through security, got to my gate in less than 10 minutes,” Tran said.
Across the country, nearly 10,000 flights were delayed Monday, according to FlightAware.
