Old Hollywood glamour has a gothic makeover at the Golden Globes

With the 2026 Golden Globes red carpet officially underway in Los Angeles, we’ve already been mesmerised by couture gowns, and dazzling ensembles of all colours and silhouettes. But one thing the Globes are often remembered for are the classic looks that swan down the carpet.

While some other awards shows may have a more adventurous edge, the Golden Globes typically leans into old Hollywood glamour — and this year was no exception. From Selena Gomez’s classic side-swept waves and berry-flushed cheeks to Tessa Thompson’s luminous, sculpted perfection, the carpet proved that sometimes the most stunning statement is subtle.

But that doesn’t mean the night lacked personality. In fact, for many, old Hollywood went gothic for the event on January 12. Audrey Nuna brought drama with her sculptural braids and mesh veil, while Charli XCX championed the barely-there, skin-first approach that’s become her signature. Jenna Ortega‘s signature bleached blonde brows were on show, complimented by an almost-bare complexion, save for her contour.

We also noticed that even with the most gothic of beauty looks, blushing cheeks were still a favourite. And lots of it. Youthful, pigmented washes of colour swept across cheekbones, proving that blush blindness is alive, well, and absolutely thriving in 2026.

Audrey Nuna was in one of the year’s most-watched movies, K-Pop Demon Hunters, and on the carpet this morning, she’s also one of the most talked-about guests on the carpet. She completed the beauty look with a mesh veil that added just the right touch of drama to match the sculptural braided hairstyle and dramatic, priest-like bow closure

A bouncy, blown out bob is quickly becoming Ayo Edebiri’s signature look. She complimented the simple glamourous wave with a black and silver smoky eye makeup, blushed cheek, and glossy lip. Her manicure was similarly classic, with a pinky-nude gel polish.

Selena Gomez often opts for classic old Hollywood glam for awards shows, and that was certainly the case at the Globes on Monday. With a heavily side-swept parting and bouncing uniform waved hair, she paired the classic hairstyle with softly-glowing base and rich red lipstick. As the founder of Rare Beauty, a brand known for its pigmented blushes, Gomez also wore a generous dusting of a matte berry-hued blush across the tops of her cheeks.

K-Pop Demon Hunters star, Ejae’s beauty look is all about the hair and manicure. Her makeup was kept simple, with fresh and luminous skin being the key focus here, accented with a subtle black winger eyeliner, and hair pulled back into a sleek and sculptural top know top knot. Her manicure is black and metallic silver, and filed to sharp almonds, complimenting her black gown and silver accessories.

Tessa Thompson

Tessa Thompson never misses when it come to mastering an understated beauty look. Her dazzling Balenciaga down was complimented by long and gently beach-waved hair. Her skin had a luminous glow, and with a brown smoky eye and contour that extended almost to her lips, she looked sculpted to perfection.

Charli XCX

Charli XCX’s go-to beauty look is barely-there, and that’s why we love it so much. The focus here is on skincare, rather than masking the natural texture of her skin. Finished with a smudged winger liner and a blurred lip in a her-lips-but-better neutral, Charli XCX did just enough on the Golden Globes.

Teyana Taylor’s feminine, curled pixie cut is undoubtedly one of our favourite beauty looks of the night. She matched her makeup to her midnight-black dress, with a dark smoky eye framed by structure brows, and accented with a glossy brown lip.

Known for her gothic aesthetic, Jenna Ortega’s beauty look at the Golden Globes was surprisingly muted. Her signature bleached blonde brows were the real statement, with her skin left mostly neutral aside from contour and a brown-nude lip. Her hair was relaxed, with subtle bangs framing her face.

Love Island USA alum, Olandria Carthen made her Golden globes debut this morning. Like many people on the carpet today, her hair was straight-up old Hollywood Glamour, with a side-swept fringe framing her face, and hair twisting back into an intricate bun. Her blush was bold and youthful, which complimented the look beautifully, with its wispy lashes and glossed brown lip.

One-half of the Internet’s favourite duos, Connor Storrie walked the red carpet without his Heated Rivalry costar, Hudson Williams. Usually, he sports bouncy, impressively defined blonde curls but today, he opted for a sleeker look. It appears that he blow dried his hair straight, with the ends flicked out.
