Being a petite girl myself, I have always been in a dilemma to pull off certain clothes. While fashion is a way to express your creativity, there are certain limitations to picking the right clothes that fit my height. Like every girl, I love wearing dresses; it gives me a feel-good factor making me feel more feminine and sexy. However, since I’m wearing a hijab, a short dress would not look very appropriate, leaving me the option of a long dress.

In this post, I have summarized the most common mistakes that short women make when choosing a long dress so that you can avoid them and make wise choices to look good and effortlessly chic.

Don’t wear a baggy dress – One of the best ways for short women to look taller is to avoid baggy, loose-fitting clothing.

Do wear a fitted dress – Fitted dresses or wrap dresses that accentuate your waist are some of the most flattering dresses out there. They help highlight your body and give your outfit definition. While I love dresses with volume or looser options, they tend not to help you look slimmer or taller. So decide on your goals for the outfit when selecting your dress.

Don’t wear with flats – Not only do they make your legs look shorter but they are also pretty unflattering to wear with a dress.

Do wear with high heels – Let’s start with an easy step first! Do you want to look taller? Great, throw on a pair of heels. Duh! But honestly, wearing your heels does more than make you taller. It also helps add some length to your lower proportions, therefore making you appear taller.

Don’t wear it loose – One cardinal rule of wearing baggy and loose clothing is that they take away your body figure

Do accessorize with a belt just above the waist – If wearing a fitted dress is not so much of your style, try to accessorize a loose dress with a belt. Adding a belt just above the waist gives a visual cue to focus your outfit. It helps draw people’s attention to your waist, which elongates your legs, gives your outfit definition, and makes you appear slimmer by adding focus to this thinner part of your body.
