Live: Every stunning look from the 2026 Met Gala red carpet
THE RUNDOWN
- The 2026 Met Gala red carpet is in motion taking place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art 8am Tuesday, May 5.
- The theme for this year’s Met Gala is Costume Art and the dress code is Fashion is Art.
- Nicole Kidman, Beyoncé and Venus Williams are co-chairing this year’s event.
After what feels like a long wait, the 2026 Met Gala is officially here. Tonight, some of the biggest stars in music, film, fashion and sport — including co-chairs Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman and Venus Williams — will gather at New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art to celebrate fashion and the body.
This year’s exhibit, “Costume and Art,” aims to elevate fashion to the same pedestal as fine art. “The history of art has always been, in no small measure, a history of the dressed body,” head curator Andrew Bolton told audiences at a press preview on Monday. “Across the museum’s collection, spanning more than 5,000 years and cultures from around the world, one constant remains: the human figure. And more precisely, the dressed body,” he continued. “It appears draped, wrapped, tailored, armoured, incised, painted, and otherwise fashioned. Traces of lives once lived, bodies once present.”
“Even in its absence, dress persists — in ideals of beauty, in systems of meaning, in the ways bodies are imagined and understood. Clothing is never neutral. It mediates between the self and the world, expressing who we are, where we belong, and how we wish to be seen.”
Complementing the exhibit is the dress code “Fashion is Art,” which offers guests more pointed direction. Bolton described it as an invitation to imagine themselves as a blank canvas and express themselves through fashion. Expect homages to Greek sculpture — from nudes to Hellenistic dressing — alongside more anatomical displays.
This year’s event also inaugurates the museum’s brand-new, almost 12,000-square-foot Condé M. Nast Galleries, named after Condé Montrose Nast, who founded the publishing house Condé Nast in 1909 and whose company became steward of Vogue. The galleries mark a milestone for former Vogue editor-in-chief and current Global Chief Content Officer Anna Wintour, who this year celebrates 31 years alongside the gala. The event takes place under something of a shadow, however, with Amazon billionaire Jeff Bezos and his wife Lauren Sánchez serving as lead sponsors — the first private individuals to bankroll the gala, a move that has prompted protests across New York City.
Alongside the co-chairs, there’s a hotly anticipated guest list and some stylish celebrity couples to watch out for. Recently engaged Harry Styles and Zoë Kravitz are both RSVP’d, but Zoë is walking the red carpet alone, as are Kim Kardashian and F1 star Lewis Hamilton. The Kardashians are on the list, along with Alex Consani, Lena Dunham, Teyana Taylor and Sabrina Carpenter.
So far, Nicole Kidman has arrived in a red sequinned Chanel gown alongside daughter and ELLE Australia covergirl Sunday Rose, dressed in a lilac Dior confection. Met Gala stalwart Emma Chamberlain has stepped out in a painterly custom Mugler look by Miguel Castro Freitas.
We’ll be updating the looks live as they come in.
